Flood alert issued in seven regions of Uzbekistan due to expected heavy rains
On August 18-19, heavy rains are expected, which may lead to flash floods and mudflows in mountainous areas. Residents of foothill and mountainous regions are advised to exercise caution.
Due to the expected rainfall on August 18-19, there is a risk of flash floods and mudflows in the foothill and mountainous areas of the country. The head of the Uzbek Hydrometeorological Agency, Sherzod Habibullaev, issued this warning.
According to him, flash floods may occur in the following areas:
- Kashkadarya Region: Yakkabog, Dehkanabad, Chirakchi, Kitob, Shakhrisabz, Kamashi, Guzar districts;
- Samarkand Region: Urgut, Samarkand, Bulungur, Nurobod, Kattakurgan, Payarik, Jomboy, Ishtikhon districts;
- Jizzakh Region: Zomin, Bakhmal, Gallaorol, Sharof Rashidov, Forish, Yangiabad districts;
- Tashkent Region: Ohangaron, Bostanlyk, Parkent, Piskent, Urta Chirchik, Yukori Chirchik districts, and in the cities of Angren and Almalyk;
- Namangan Region: Pop, Kosonsoy, Chortok, Chust, Namangan, Yangikorgon districts;
- Fergana Region: Sokh, Fergana, Besharyk districts, and the Shohimardon area;
- Andijan Region: Andijan, Asaka, Jalakuduk, Kurgantepa, Pakhtaabad, Izboskan, Khojaobod, Marhamat districts, and in the city of Khanabad.
Residents, vacationers, and drivers traveling in the foothill and mountainous areas are urged to take precautionary measures.
