Uzbekistan and Spain enhance textile sector collaboration, preparing for joint ventures and expos

A business delegation from Uzbekistan, including representatives from the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade and leaders of textile companies, held a series of meetings with major Spanish firms in Madrid.

The Spanish side was briefed on reforms in Uzbekistan's textile industry, the export potential of local producers, and prospects for collaboration. Catalogs and product samples were also showcased.

During a meeting with Alejandro Pastrana, CEO of Gedepsa, discussions centered on promoting Uzbek products in the Spanish market. Agreements were reached to establish a trade house for Uzbekistan in Madrid, where Uzbek textile products will be featured, and to develop pilot projects for testing products in the Spanish market.

In negotiations with international consultant Albert Hernandez, strategies for promoting Uzbek products, logistics, and distribution issues were addressed. The consultant expressed willingness to assist in establishing contacts with Spanish fashion companies and organizing Uzbek producers' participation in Spanish tenders.

Additionally, discussions with the global procurement departments of El Corte Inglés and Tendam explored opportunities for placing Uzbek textile products in retail chains. The Uzbek delegation provided information on the latest trends in the republic’s textile industry, available international certifications, and the benefits of exporting to the EU under the "GSP+" system.

Following the meetings, Spanish companies expressed interest in establishing cooperation and showed readiness to participate in international textile exhibitions scheduled to be held in Uzbekistan in the fall of 2024.
