Russia to supply Uzbekistan with Monkeypox detection kits

Russia will supply Uzbekistan with test systems for detecting monkeypox, with the first batch to be delivered this week, according to "Rospotrebnadzor."

On August 26, an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Heads of Competent Authorities in the Field of Sanitary and Epidemiological Well-being of the Population of the EAEU Member States was held under the chairmanship of Russia's Chief State Sanitary Doctor, Anna Popova.

The chief state sanitary doctors of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan participated in the meeting. Additionally, the heads of the competent authorities in the field of sanitary and epidemiological safety from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan were invited to participate.

During the meeting, the situation related to the declaration of an international public health emergency concerning monkeypox by the World Health Organization was discussed. According to the council members, the risk of monkeypox spreading in the EAEU states, as well as in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, is assessed as low.

The participants also discussed the anti-epidemic measures being implemented. It was noted that all countries in the Eurasian region will strengthen sanitary and quarantine control measures at their borders.

It was highlighted that the partners requested Russia to provide test systems for detecting monkeypox. The initial sets of these test systems are expected to be delivered to Uzbekistan this week.
