Kyrgyzstan removes Taliban from Terrorist Organizations list
In September 2006, the Pervomaysky District Court recognized the Taliban as a terrorist organization in Kyrgyzstan.
The Prosecutor General's Office of Kyrgyzstan has published a list of terrorist organizations banned by the country’s courts, according to Anadolu.
The document lists 20 organizations, but the Taliban is no longer included. In 2006, the Pervomaysky District Court officially labeled the Taliban as a terrorist group in Kyrgyzstan.
A deputy head of the State Commission on Religious Affairs, Azamat Yusupov, commented: "Due to recent developments in Afghanistan, the Taliban may have been removed from the list. You should contact the judiciary or the Prosecutor General's Office, which published the list, for further details."
Another deputy head of the State Commission on Religious Affairs added that Kazakhstan has also removed the Taliban from its list of terrorist organizations. According to him, CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) member states are also discussing this issue.
Among the organizations banned by Kyrgyz courts are Al-Qaeda, the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement, the Kurdistan People's Congress, and the Hizb ut-Tahrir movement.
