Turkish Onur Group to reconstruct Bektemir-Charvak road, set for toll conversion
Turkish company Onur Group is planning to participate in the reconstruction of a 70-kilometer stretch of road in Uzbekistan, which is expected to be turned into a toll road, according to Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Last week, Bülent Tatar, the Onur Group’s Director for Projects in Romania and Moldova, met with ministry officials to discuss collaboration opportunities in transport infrastructure development. The discussions covered the company's experience in building bridges, tunnels, airports, railways, and other infrastructure, with a focus on joint public-private partnership (PPP) projects between Uzbekistan and Türkiye.
A key point of the talks was the planned reconstruction of the 4R12 highway section from Bektemir to Charvak, spanning from the 6th to the 77th kilometer. The road is expected to be paved with asphalt and transformed into a toll road.
On September 18, experts from Onur Group visited the section of the highway to assess the upcoming work. They were accompanied by representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Committee on Roads. Following the visit, both parties agreed to prepare the necessary documents for the project, with further negotiations planned.
Several toll road projects are currently in preparation across Uzbekistan. By the end of the year, construction is set to begin on a new highway between Tashkent and Samarkand, with an estimated cost of $2.2 billion. Additionally, a tender for the construction of a 303-kilometer toll road from Tashkent to Andijan is expected in 2025. There are also plans to extend the Tashkent-Samarkand highway to Bukhara.
