Transportation costs for children with disabilities to school to be covered up to 75%
Ninety special schools for children with mental and physical disabilities will be transformed into multifunctional schools.
A meeting chaired by the president, focusing on the effectiveness of social protection efforts and priority tasks for 2025, was recently held.
It was noted that the enrollment of children with disabilities in preschool and school education is the lowest in the regions of Kashkadarya, Samarkand, Surkhandarya, and Tashkent.
Nationwide, 16,500 children with disabilities do not attend school, 17,500 do not attend preschool, and an additional 11,000 children are studying at special boarding schools far from their families.
In response, the Social Protection Agency, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, and regional governors have been instructed to establish at least one inclusive education group in each district’s kindergarten by February 1. By September 1, inclusive classrooms will be set up in 954 schools, providing education to an additional 1,800 children with disabilities.
The Social Protection Agency has also been tasked with introducing a system to cover 75% of transportation costs for children with disabilities commuting to school.
Moreover, it has been emphasized that 90 special schools for children with mental and physical disabilities should be converted into multifunctional schools. This initiative will enable 2,000 children with disabilities to live with their families while attending schools in their local communities.
Starting from the new academic year, one such school will be established in Tashkent as a pilot project.
