309 corruption-related crimes committed by assistant governors in Uzbekistan in 2024
In 2024, 309 corruption-related crimes were committed by assistant governors within the Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Employment in Uzbekistan. This contributed to a larger trend, in which 6,898 individuals were involved in a total of 5,716 corruption-related offenses across the country, according to Sherzod Saparov, spokesperson for the Anti-Corruption Agency.

He highlighted that, compared to 2023, corruption-related crimes decreased in sectors such as Hududgaztaminot JSC, water management, local authorities, and banking. However, there was an increase in corruption-related offenses in higher education, transportation, and agriculture.
Corruption-related crimes remain particularly prevalent in the fields of pre-school and school education, healthcare, poverty reduction, and employment.
Regionally, corruption-related crimes were most common in Tashkent region, Tashkent city, and Samarkand region, while Bukhara and Khorezm regions reported fewer such offenses.
Throughout 2024, the agency received 4,176 complaints. Based on the investigation of these complaints, 55 inquiries were sent to relevant ministries, departments, and local authorities, 41 proposals were submitted to address violations, and 7 individuals were held disciplinarily accountable, including one whose labor contract was terminated. Additionally, 19 decisions were annulled, 6 criminal cases were initiated, and 10 administrative cases were filed. Measures were also taken to rectify existing errors and shortcomings.
Furthermore, the agency conducted anti-corruption reviews on 327 drafts of normative legal documents. As a result, 71% (233) of the drafts revealed 676 factors contributing to corruption, and measures were taken to address these issues.
