Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan discussing ID cards for border crossings
Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have explored the possibility of recognizing biometric ID cards as valid documents for crossing their borders. This issue was addressed during an online meeting between representatives of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan, with participation from consular and legal departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The new system is expected to simplify travel for citizens, strengthen bilateral relations, and enhance cooperation in migration policy. The use of biometric ID cards will enable citizens of both countries to cross the border without the need for a foreign passport, significantly improving travel convenience.
This decision is anticipated to foster stronger trade, economic, cultural, and tourism ties between the two nations.
