Namangan residents to have 18 billion UZS in garbage collection debt canceled
The Competition Committee reported that residents of Namangan Region had been charged for garbage collection services that were never provided, leading to the recalculation of 18 billion UZS in unjustified debt.
The regional supervisory authority analyzed data on garbage collection services provided in the first half of 2024. The inspection involved the state-run enterprise "Toza Hudud" and the company “Namangan Musaffo Iqlim”.
The investigation revealed that waste management operators had been billing for services that were never provided. Over 1.1 million residents across 10 districts were impacted by these actions.
A special commission from the committee has initiated proceedings against both companies for violating Articles 19 and 21 of the "Consumer Rights Protection Law." They were issued mandatory orders to recalculate the overcharged debt.
Last week, it was reported that the Supreme Court had declared two garbage collection agreements between the Administration of Navoi Region and the private company "Berezhlivost" invalid. A case to annul another contract with the company is still under review by the Appellate Court.
