A critical meeting on combating corruption in the energy sector took place in Samarkand on February 14, with the participation of Deputy Prosecutor General Sh. Aminov. The meeting was attended by employees of Regional Electric Networks and Hududgaztaminot joint-stock companies in Samarkand, as well as officials from district and city branches and other responsible persons, as reported by the Ministry of Energy.
During the meeting, preventive detention was applied to seven employees of the supply companies who were accused of corruption-related offenses. The suspects were taken away in handcuffs during the meeting.
On February 15, the Kattakurgan District Court issued a ruling to apply preventive detention to four employees of the "Qoradaryo" electricity supply company. These individuals may have been among those arrested during the meeting.
According to the court ruling, preventive detention was applied to O.Q., a lawyer at "Qoradaryo" electricity supply company, Y.N., an inspector, S.N., a supervisor, and Z.Z., an engineer. The court documents revealed that Y.N., S.N., and Z.Z. had colluded as a group to resolve a protocol issued against a resident of the Valijon neighborhood of Kattakurgan district, who had violated electricity usage regulations, in exchange for 7 million UZS and 200 US dollars.
Lawyer O.Q. had allegedly requested 2.7 million UZS from a resident of the Valijon neighborhood of Kattakurgan district, whose illegal connection to the electricity network had resulted in a 27 million UZS debt. O.Q. was caught in the act, receiving the 2.7 million UZS through an intermediary.
