Six killed and five injured in Kashkadarya gas station explosion
A devastating explosion at a liquefied gas refilling station in the Karshi district of Kashkadarya region has left six people dead and five others injured.
The incident occurred at approximately 13:50 on June 8 at a gas refilling station, located within the Chaman neighborhood citizens' assembly. Five rescue units were immediately dispatched to the scene, arriving at 14:02. Firefighters managed to contain the perimeter of the blaze by 14:05 and completely extinguished the fire by 14:55.
According to preliminary assessments, the initial explosion triggered a massive fire that heavily compromised the facility's infrastructure. The flames completely destroyed two underground fuel storage reservoirs and four vehicles parked nearby, which included two Cobalt sedans and two specialized gas transport trucks.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed that six citizens lost their lives in the disaster, while five others sustained various degrees of bodily injuries and were rushed to a local hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Following instructions from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Cabinet of Ministers has issued a directive to establish a specialized government commission to handle the aftermath of the tragedy. Led by Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Ramatov, the commission comprises senior officials from relevant ministries and state agencies.
The government panel has been tasked with providing all necessary assistance to the victims and their families, managing the cleanup operations, investigating the root causes of the explosion, and developing safety measures to prevent similar industrial accidents in the future. Officials stated that the affected area has been fully cordoned off and remains under total control as recovery operations continue.
