Emirati company advances $90M water project in Namangan

Metito Utilities, a company based in the United Arab Emirates, is working on new initiatives in Uzbekistan focused on sustainable water resource management. This was announced by the company’s General Manager, Rami Gandour, in an interview with Trend.

The foundation for these efforts is a pioneering public-private partnership (PPP) in the water sector within the CIS region — the construction of a wastewater treatment facility in Namangan. Metito secured the tender for this project in 2021.

The Namangan project encompasses the design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of a facility capable of processing 100,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day, along with the installation of 7.5 kilometers of sewerage networks. Valued at approximately $90 million, the project spans 25 years, with the initial two years dedicated to construction (as per 2021 data).

“This landmark project serves as a benchmark for the water treatment sector across the CIS, setting an example for establishing principles and best practices in sustainable water management. Metito Utilities views this initiative as a catalyst for further development, driving innovation and promoting sustainable growth in the region,” Gandour stated.

He added that the company is currently collaborating with partners to finalize the financial closure phase, after which construction will commence.

In addition, Metito is undertaking a project to modernize pumping stations in the Namangan region. The scope of this initiative was expanded following the signing of an amendment on January 13, 2025, in Abu Dhabi during an official visit by Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the UAE.

Metito emphasizes its commitment to sustainable development and considers Uzbekistan a key market for introducing innovative water infrastructure solutions in the region.
