The meeting focused on further strengthening the broad strategic partnership and alliance between Uzbekistan and Russia. Both sides highly praised the growing effectiveness of inter-parliamentary relations. They emphasized the importance of continuing active cooperation in overseeing the implementation of high-level agreements through parliamentary mechanisms.
Special attention was paid to supporting trade and economic partnerships, industrial cooperation projects, and humanitarian exchange programs.
The 150th anniversary assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union is being held in Tashkent for the first time in Central Asia’s history. In March 2024, an agreement to host the event in Uzbekistan in 2025 was signed in Geneva by IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong and Chairperson of the Uzbek Senate Tanzila Narbayeva.
On January 30, during a meeting of the organizing committee at the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Narbayeva noted that such a prestigious event is held only in countries with a strong track record in parliamentarism and sustainable development.
The 150th IPU anniversary assembly officially began in Tashkent on April 5, with its first plenary session held on April 6 under the theme: "Parliamentary action for peace, justice, and strong institutions."
