Gov’t introduces stricter measures for driving on sidewalks and pedestrian paths
New amendments to the Administrative Code establish penalties for drivers who operate vehicles on sidewalks, pedestrian paths, bike lanes, and adjacent green areas.
A law signed on April 10 introduces changes and additions to several legislative acts, including the Code of Administrative Responsibility.
Under the new amendments, administrative liability is imposed for the following traffic violations:
- Driving vehicles on sidewalks, pedestrian paths, bicycle lanes, and green areas established in adjacent zones;
- Installing illegal barriers or other structures that obstruct the movement of traffic participants;
- Unauthorized driving on lanes designated exclusively for public transport.
Specifically, the new provisions state:
- Unauthorized use of dedicated public transport lanes (except in cases where it is permitted) will result in a fine equal to 1 base calculation value (BCV);
- Repeating the same violation within one year after an administrative penalty has been imposed will lead to a fine of 3 BCVs.
