Rogun hydropower plant to supply electricity to Uzbekistan during peak demand
The Rogun Hydropower Plant will supply electricity to Uzbekistan at a rate of 3.4 cents per kilowatt-hour.
The government of Tajikistan has approved a draft agreement with Uzbekistan for the supply of electricity generated by the Rogun Hydropower Plant.
Under the agreement signed between the two governments, the volume and schedule of electricity deliveries will be coordinated between OJSC Rogun HPP and JSC Uzenergosotish, depending on demand – particularly during peak hours in Uzbekistan’s power system.
The electricity will be priced at 3.4 cents per kilowatt-hour, including VAT at a zero rate. Starting from the second year, the price will be indexed by 1% annually.
Until the full completion of construction, deliveries will be made only during the growing season – from April 1 to September 30. Once the plant reaches full capacity, both sides will transition to year-round cooperation.
Electricity from the Rogun plant will be supplied in parallel with imports from Tajikistan’s state energy company, Barki Tojik.
The agreement is valid for 20 years, with automatic renewal every 10 years thereafter.
Construction of the Rogun HPP resumed in 2016. Once completed, it is expected to become the most powerful hydroelectric facility in Central Asia, with a projected capacity of 3,600 megawatts.
