Interior Ministry proposes cheaper tinting fees from May to August
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has proposed a draft law to introduce discounted pricing for vehicle window tinting during the summer months.
Under the draft, a short-term window tinting permit valid from May 1 to August 31 each year would be available for M1 category vehicles (passenger cars) to tint their rear and front side windows.
The permit is expected to cost the equivalent of one base calculation unit (BCU) – currently UZS 412,000 – for both individuals and legal entities operating in Uzbekistan. For foreign legal entities operating in the country, the permit would cost five BCUs, or UZS 2,060,000.
Regardless of the issue date, the full fee would be charged for the seasonal permit.
The public discussion of the draft law will continue until August 22.
For reference, tinting the rear side windows of passenger cars is currently free of charge. However, a permit to tint the front side windows costs eight BCUs, or UZS 3,296,000.
Driving a tinted vehicle without a permit carries a fine under Article 126-1 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility. The penalty is 25 BCUs, or UZS 10,300,000.
