Uzbek student drowns in Bulgaria’s Sozopol, Foreign Ministry confirms
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan has confirmed the death of a 22-year-old student who drowned in the Bulgarian city of Sozopol. The ministry expressed its deepest condolences to his family and said all necessary steps are being taken to repatriate the body to Uzbekistan.

According to Kun.uz, the young man’s body was found lodged between large coastal rocks. His friends – citizens of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Moldova – discovered the body after nine hours of searching.
As noted by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Akhror Burkhanov, immediately after receiving information about the tragedy, contact was established with Uzbekistan’s Consulate General in Istanbul, which oversees Bulgaria. Diplomats are in contact with the victim’s family and are cooperating with the Bulgarian authorities to resolve all logistical matters.
Work is currently under way to settle the situation, including preparations for the repatriation of the body to Uzbekistan.
