The children attend kindergartens No. 2, No. 7 and No. 47 and were admitted to the Fergana Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital, the Food Safety Committee said.

As part of the initial epidemiological investigation, officials inspected food products and meals served at the three facilities, including breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks. They also identified the suppliers of the products.

Samples of food products and prepared meals have been collected for bacteriological testing. The investigation and laboratory tests are ongoing, the committee said.

The 28 children still in hospital are in stable condition, with none reported to be seriously ill. The other 23 were discharged after their condition was assessed as satisfactory and will continue treatment at home.

The incident follows previous cases of suspected mass food poisoning among kindergarten children in Fergana. An earlier investigation found that a company providing catering services to state kindergartens in Fergana and Kuvasoy had secured the contract without a competitive tender, under a decision signed by the regional governor.
