On July 26 this year, during drilling operations at a new exploratory well (No. 1) with a projected depth of 5,000 meters at the Muynak site in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, gas had erupted at a depth of 4,707 meters. According to Uzbekneftegaz JSC’s press service, the well was brought fully under control one month after the leak began.
To eliminate the gas outflow, Uzbekneftegaz established an emergency headquarters. Its composition included a militarized unit for preventing and extinguishing open fountains, representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, relevant regional departments, and specialists from the local administration.
The special headquarters developed a “roadmap” to contain the gas outflow, and all work was carried out step by step with the assistance of partner organizations.
“As of today, thanks to the tireless and effective efforts of local specialists, with the support of international companies with relevant expertise and modern equipment, the well has been fully brought under control.
All operations were completed without any accidents or casualties. In recognition of their efforts under difficult conditions, 200 workers were presented with letters of appreciation and commemorative gifts,” the report said.
