Surkhandarya to launch UZS 140 billion ecotourism complex at South Surkhan Reservoir
A new ecotourism complex will be developed on the territory of the South Surkhan Reservoir in Kumkurgan district. The project includes the creation of green zones, eco-friendly roads and infrastructure, as well as the introduction of a wastewater treatment system.
According to the regional administration’s press service, the ecotourism complex will be built in Surkhandarya region at a total cost of UZS 140 billion.
The project is aimed at promoting ecotourism by using the potential of mountain recreational areas, reservoirs, lakes, and riverbanks without causing harm to the environment.
“It is planned to construct an ecotourism complex on the territory of the South Surkhan Reservoir in Kumkurgan district, covering an area of 15.7 hectares and costing UZS 140 billion. The project provides for the preservation of the natural environment, the creation of new green zones, the construction of roads and infrastructure in line with environmental standards, and the introduction of a wastewater treatment system,” the statement said.

It was noted that regional governor Ulugbek Qosimov reviewed the revised project, prepared on the basis of proposals and recommendations. He inspected the site and instructed that construction works be carried out systematically and in stages, to be launched as soon as possible in accordance with established requirements.
In addition, the issue of establishing a reinforced concrete cluster in the buildings of the former “Surkhon kombinat” LLC – currently on the balance sheet of commercial banks – was also discussed. The vacant buildings are planned to be put up for auction, taking into account specific project and investment requirements.
