Several temporary detention facilities in Tashkent region shut down
Temporary detention facilities in Chinoz, Qibray, and Yukori Chirchiq districts that failed to meet sanitary and hygiene requirements for holding detainees have been closed.
In June 2025, the regional representative of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Oliy Majlis (Ombudsman), together with public monitoring groups, carried out inspection visits to the temporary detention facilities of the Department of Internal Affairs in Quyichirchiq and Chinoz districts. A ventilation system and a radio broadcasting device were installed in the temporary detention facility of the Quyichirchiq district Department of Internal Affairs. Cells were equipped with the necessary furnishings. The exercise yard and sanitary facilities (toilets and washrooms) were renovated and brought into compliance with hygiene standards.
At the same time, temporary detention facilities in Chinoz, Qibray, and Yukori Chirchiq districts, which failed to meet sanitary and hygiene requirements for holding detainees, were shut down by a corresponding order of the Minister of Internal Affairs on 21 July 2025.
