The figure is 4.3 times higher than in the 2015/2016 academic year, when seven foreign higher education institutions were operating in the country. Over the past five years alone, their number has risen from 18 to 30.
Official statistics show a steady expansion in the number of foreign universities and their branches in Uzbekistan, from two institutions in the 2005/2006 academic year to six in 2010/2011, seven in 2015/2016, 18 in 2020/2021 and 30 in 2025/2026.
Foreign institutions operating in Uzbekistan include branches of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia, as well as Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent, Webster University in Tashkent, Bucheon University in Tashkent, Ajou University in Tashkent and Liaoning Normal University.
The country also hosts Westminster International University in Tashkent and the Management Development Institute of Singapore in Tashkent, alongside other higher education institutions established in partnership with foreign universities and educational organizations.
The sharpest increase has come in recent years, with the number of foreign higher education institutions growing by two-thirds since the 2020/2021 academic year.
