According to a report by Dunyo news agency, diplomats from the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington visited the Caroline and Farmville detention centers for foreign nationals in the state of Virginia, where they met with Uzbek citizens currently being held there. During the visits, embassy representatives assessed the detainees’ living conditions, health status, overall wellbeing, food provision, and other day-to-day matters.
The diplomats also provided explanations on consular and legal issues, outlining the procedures related to their status and available forms of assistance. According to the detainees, court proceedings are currently under way in connection with their deportation after they were found to have entered or stayed in the United States illegally. In this context, they asked for practical support to facilitate their prompt return to Uzbekistan.
The embassy stated that, within its mandate, it is ready to engage with relevant foreign authorities on repatriation issues and to provide practical assistance in preparing the necessary consular documents. At the same time, taking into account recent changes in US immigration policy, Uzbek citizens abroad were advised to ensure they remain in the host country legally, strictly comply with local laws, and refrain from any unlawful activities.
The embassy noted that, if needed, Uzbek citizens in the United States may contact the consular section via telephone at +1 (202) 887-5300 or by email at [email protected].
It was also recalled that on 21 January 2026, a total of 44 Uzbek citizens who had been staying in the United States illegally were deported and returned to Tashkent on a charter flight.
