Number of families receiving energy subsidies rises sharply in July
The number of low-income households receiving compensation for electricity and gas bills in Uzbekistan rose sharply in July, according to the National Agency for Social Protection.
The payments are made under a presidential decree of 2 April, which provides subsidies to cover the difference between the basic tariff and the higher rate applied once consumption exceeds 150 kWh of electricity or 150 cubic meters of natural gas.
In July 2025, compensation worth UZS 5.8 billion was allocated to 278,100 households that surpassed the basic consumption limit. This represents an increase of 71,300 families compared with June.
The agency said UZS 5.2 billion of the total was directed to electricity bills and UZS 606 million to natural gas.
The number of families receiving support has been rising steadily in recent months. In May, 152,600 families received UZS 3.2 billion in compensation, while in June, 216,400 households received UZS 4.2 billion.
All payments are fully financed through AT Xalq Banki.
