Uzbekistan may merge school and university entrance exams into a single test
Uzbekistan is considering a major reform of its examination system that would combine school graduation tests and university entrance exams into a single online assessment. Officials say the move would lower costs and ease the burden on students.
Deputy Minister of Preschool and School Education Sardor Rajabov told Uzbekistan 24 that the current system forces graduates to take two separate sets of exams – first the state graduation tests, then university entrance exams.
“This means extra expenses, a loss of time, and, most importantly, a stressful situation for our children,” Rajabov said.
Under the proposed reform, both processes would be integrated into one exam supported by artificial intelligence tools. The results would simultaneously count as graduation marks and as the basis for university admission.
The initiative comes as Uzbekistan prepares to introduce a 12-year general education system. With this change, school graduates would be able to enter bachelor’s programs directly, without first completing Foundation courses abroad.
