Reportedly, key factors in reducing poverty were social benefits, child allowances, and pensions. Without such support measures, the level of child poverty could have risen sharply, Castillo noted.
She also emphasized the importance of state-guaranteed universal services – education, healthcare, and child protection – as the foundation for developing human capital.
According to Castillo, reducing child poverty must remain at the core of socio-economic policy. She reaffirmed UNICEF’s readiness to support the government of Uzbekistan through a multi-sectoral approach.
Meanwhile, official data shows that in January–August 2025, a total of 2,872 minors in Uzbekistan suffered from various crimes, of whom 1,225 – or 42.7% – were under the age of 12.
