Uzbek wrestler claims historic gold at Greco-Roman world championships in Zagreb
Uzbekistan’s national Greco-Roman wrestling team member Aytjan Khalmakhanov has won a gold medal at the World Wrestling Championships held in Croatia.

The tournament took place in Zagreb, where Khalmakhanov delivered an outstanding performance to secure the gold, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) press service reported.
In the final bout, the Uzbek wrestler, competing in the under-63 kg weight category, defeated South Korea’s Chung Han-jae.
According to the NOC, Khalmakhanov’s victory marks the first world championship gold medal for Uzbekistan in Greco-Roman wrestling in the past 24 years.
Overall, the Uzbek team won 1 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals at the tournament.
Gold:
- 63 kg – Aytjan Khalmakhanov (Greco-Roman wrestling).
Silver:
- 60 kg – Alisher Ganiyev (Greco-Roman wrestling).
Bronze:
- 57 kg – Gulomjon Abdullaev (freestyle wrestling);
- 65 kg – Umidjon Jalolov (freestyle wrestling);
- 72 kg – Abdullo Aliyev (Greco-Roman wrestling).
