Uzbek citizen jailed for 10 years after escape from Russian penal colony

The man was part of a group of six inmates who escaped from Penal Colony No. 2. All of the escapees were citizens of Central Asian countries, including four from Uzbekistan.

The fugitives were captured in late October 2024 in Tambov region. At the time, a police officer noticed men matching the description of those wanted. During the arrest, the defendant resisted, breaking the officer’s right arm. The injury was classified as a moderately severe bodily harm.

“The court found the defendant guilty of committing a crime and sentenced him to 10 years in a high-security penal colony,” the Tambov regional prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

The Uzbek national was convicted under Part 2 of Article 318 of the Russian Criminal Code (use of violence dangerous to life or health against a public official during the performance of official duties).
