Meta may open a regional office in Uzbekistan

The National Agency of Perspective Projects (NAPP) held a meeting with representatives of Meta – the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads – to discuss the potential opening of a representative office in Uzbekistan. The discussions also covered cooperation in advertising promotion, fraud prevention on Meta platforms, content monetization, and support for local digital content creators.

During the talks, the parties explored prospects for establishing Meta’s presence in Uzbekistan, enhancing collaboration in advertising promotion and fraud prevention, as well as advancing opportunities for content monetization and supporting local creators in the digital ecosystem.

Meta was represented at the meeting by Sarim Aziz, Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia; Senura Abeywardena, Head of Public Policy for Central Asia, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives; Aurora Li, Head of Government and Social Impact for Central Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan; and Yerassyl Kalikhan, Associate Regional Public Policy Manager for Central Asia and Mongolia.

The sides emphasized the importance of establishing direct dialogue and sharing experience on digital platform regulation, user protection, and the development of a fair content monetization system. Special attention was given to digital security, advertising transparency, and the promotion of responsible online behavior.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue their cooperation and explore concrete areas of partnership.
