Tashkent Metro delays relaunch of “30 Years of Independence” route
The reopening of 14 stations on Tashkent Metro’s above-ground Circle Line – originally expected on October 18 – has been postponed until around November 1. The metro administration explained that the delay aims to “double train speed compared to previous levels and minimize time intervals between trains.”

According to the administration, test operations without passengers are currently underway. “Although earlier reports suggested that the line might reopen around October 18, the decision has been made to extend the testing period in order to further improve the process and ensure smoother operations. The reopening is now expected around November 1. Once all technical requirements are met and tests are successfully completed, the line will resume passenger service,” the metro said in a statement.
The above-ground Circle Line, known as the “30 Years of Independence” route, includes 14 stations:
- “Qipchoq” and “Turon” stations have been closed since June 8.
- Six stations from “Quruvchilar” to “Yangiobod” have been closed since June 28.
- The final six stations from “Yangiobod” to “Do‘stlik” have been closed since August 2.
Officials described the works as planned preventive maintenance.
“Track conditions have been improved, damaged sleepers have been replaced, the drainage system inspected, and ballast checked,” the metro administration said on October 13.
The “30 Years of Independence” line was built between 2017 and 2024. The first seven stations were launched in September 2020, the next five in April 2023, and the final two in March 2024.
By June 2025, work began to replace rails and sleepers. The Transport Prosecutor’s Office later reported that several deficiencies had been identified in the process.
For reference, the underground Yunusobod Line’s “Yunusobod” and “Turkiston” stations – opened in 2020 – were also closed for four months of preventive maintenance three years later.
