Montenegro suspends visa-free regime for citizens of Uzbekistan
The decision was reportedly made as part of efforts to align Montenegro’s national visa policy with the requirements of the European Union.
The Government of Montenegro has suspended its previous decisions that temporarily exempted citizens of Armenia, Uzbekistan, and Egypt from visa requirements. The decision was adopted during the 98th session of the Montenegrin Cabinet of Ministers, chaired by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, on 9 October 2025.
“The Cabinet adopted amendments to the decisions on the temporary visa exemption for nationals of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the Arab Republic of Egypt. In line with obligations under the Reform Agenda 2024 – 2027 and the closing benchmarks of EU accession Chapter 24, Montenegro continues to harmonize with EU visa policy. Accordingly, today’s amendments suspend the application of previous decisions on temporary visa exemptions for citizens of the aforementioned countries, thereby sending a clear signal of Montenegro’s firm commitment to full EU membership,” reads the statement (https://www.gov.me/en/article/press-release-from-the-98th-cabinet-session) on the government’s official website.
The Cabinet also approved amendments to the regulation governing the country’s visa regime.
It should be recalled that Montenegro introduced a visa-free regime for citizens of Uzbekistan in June 2023, and regular direct flights between the two countries had also been established.
