Uzbekistan sees decline in outbound students, rising interest in East Asia
According to the National Statistics Committee, a total of 20,700 citizens of Uzbekistan went abroad for studies between January and August 2025.
This figure fell by almost 5,100 people – or 24.6% – compared to the same period last year.
The most popular destinations for Uzbek students were:
- Tajikistan – 5,270 people;
- Russia – 4,649 people;
- Kyrgyzstan – 3,064 people;
- South Korea – 2,309 people;
- Turkey – 1,538 people;
- Kazakhstan – 874 people;
- China – 797 people;
- United Kingdom – 567 people;
- Germany – 285 people;
- United States – 256 people.
At the same time, the number of students going to China and South Korea more than doubled, while the number of those choosing Tajikistan decreased by half.
