Assistants of former Uzbekistan head coach Katanec demand €350,000 from UFA

The Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA) has commented on reports that former assistants of ex-national team head coach Srečko Katanec are demanding compensation.

Earlier, social media reports claimed that former members of the Uzbekistan national team’s coaching staff had filed a complaint with FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, alleging that the UFA owes them €350,000.

According to reports, the Slovenian specialists’ contracts were valid until the summer of 2026 but were terminated following the appointment of a new coaching team led by Fabio Cannavaro.

The UFA’s press service explained that the contracts of the assistants to the former head coach were automatically terminated in accordance with the clause in their employment agreements stating that the contracts of assistants are annulled once the head coach’s contract is ended. The assistants were officially notified of this decision.

“The termination of the head coach’s contract by mutual agreement and the appointment of a new coaching staff accordingly resulted in the cancellation of the previous staff’s contracts,” the UFA said in a statement.

The Association emphasized that such provisions in assistant coaches’ contracts are standard practice in FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regulations.

Earlier, the UFA had offered the Slovenian specialists – whose contracts had been terminated – to continue working with other age-category national teams, but they declined the offer.
