This historic session of the UNESCO General Conference is being held outside the organization’s headquarters in Paris for the first time in forty years. Hosting such a large-scale international forum in Samarkand serves as clear evidence of Uzbekistan’s commitment to UNESCO’s ideals and values, as well as its determination to actively contribute to the development of global dialogue for peace, mutual understanding, and sustainable progress.
As part of this landmark session, more than 150 events of various formats will be held to discuss key issues in education, science, culture, ecology, technology, and communications.
High-level delegations from more than 200 countries and international organizations are expected to attend, including President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, President of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, and other distinguished guests.
UNESCO is a specialized agency of the United Nations established in 1945 to promote peace and security through international cooperation in education, science, culture, and communications.
Uzbekistan became a full member of UNESCO in 1993. In 1996, the organization’s representative office was opened in Tashkent – a milestone that marked the strengthening of cooperation and the multifaceted partnership between Uzbekistan and this esteemed international institution.
