Road accidents drop after introduction of penalty point system in Uzbekistan
The Traffic Safety Service has released statistics on the penalty points system and reported a positive trend in road accident figures.
Since 1 June, Uzbekistan has implemented a penalty point system for violations of traffic rules.
According to Zoyir Yuldoshev, spokesperson for the Traffic Safety Department (TSD), more than 114,000 drivers received penalty points during the past five months, including:
• 114,374 drivers – between 1 and 5 points;
• 6 drivers – 5–6 points;
• 1 driver – 7 points;
• 1 driver – 8 points.
An analysis of road accidents and violations showed that between 1 June and 30 October, the total number of road traffic accidents decreased by 6.3%, while accidents caused by drivers dropped by 31.2%.
“These figures indicate that the introduction of the penalty point system has indeed produced practical results. Before its introduction, such a positive trend in road accident statistics had not been observed,” Yuldoshev said.
It should be noted that starting from 1 April 2026, penalty points will also be calculated through technical means – that is, devices that record violations online.
In such cases, the fine will be shared between the vehicle owner and the person driving it under a power of attorney, insurance policy, or trip sheet.
The process will be managed via the mobile app of the Traffic Safety Department. Additional information on the app’s operation and usage rules will be provided later.
