FIFA U-17 World Cup: Uzbekistan defeats Paraguay 2-1

Uzbekistan’s U-17 national football team made a strong start to their FIFA U-17 World Cup campaign in Qatar, defeating Paraguay 2–1 in their opening Group J match on November 5.

The match began evenly, but the Uzbeks capitalized on a defensive mistake in the 25th minute. After Paraguay failed to clear the ball properly, Uzbekistan launched a swift counterattack that ended with a powerful long-range strike from Azizbek Abdumuminov, putting his team ahead.

Just before the halftime whistle, Abdumuminov struck again. Receiving a precise cross from the right flank, he calmly sent the ball into the net to complete his brace and double Uzbekistan’s advantage.

Paraguay responded with more intensity in the second half and managed to pull one goal back in the 89th minute through a penalty. The South American side pressed for an equalizer in the final moments, but Uzbekistan held firm to secure their first victory in the tournament.

In the other Group J fixture, Ireland comfortably beat Panama 4–1.

Uzbekistan will face Ireland in their next match on November 8.

According to the tournament format, 48 participating teams are divided into 12 groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the round of 16, along with the eight best third-placed teams.
