Minister of Ecology Aziz Abdukhakimov presented his suggestions to the president. The proposals include measures to expand the powers of environmental authorities, ensure prompt responses to violations, and prevent illegal tree cutting and air pollution. Specific details of the steps to be taken have not yet been disclosed.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has been implementing large-scale initiatives to protect nature, improve air quality, expand green spaces, and adapt to climate change. However, the current management system remains fragmented, with responsibilities and powers distributed among various agencies, which reduces the overall effectiveness of environmental efforts.

In this context, the meeting discussed ways to improve the management structure of the sector.

It was proposed to consolidate the implementation and financing of environmental projects – aimed at improving air quality, expanding urban green zones, promoting environmental awareness, and preserving natural heritage – under a unified management system. The importance of ensuring targeted and transparent use of resources was emphasized.

Plans were also presented to strengthen environmental monitoring and expand the authority of specialized agencies. The discussion covered mechanisms for rapid response to environmental violations, prevention of illegal logging and air pollution, public participation in environmental oversight, and improvements to industrial environmental regulation and the preservation of green areas in urban settlements.

President Mirziyoyev approved the presented proposals and instructed officials to refine them to further enhance the quality and effectiveness of environmental management, as well as strengthen oversight and accountability in the sector.
