Temporary payment block, not power cutoff – Energy Ministry on waste collection debts
The Ministry of Energy has refuted social media reports claiming that consumers with outstanding debts for waste collection services are being disconnected from electricity. According to the ministry, such subscribers are not cut off from power supply; rather, their ability to make electricity payments is temporarily restricted until the debt is settled.
The ministry explained that consumers who owe payments for waste collection services receive an SMS notification in advance from the short number 2100, operated by the joint-stock company Regional Electric Networks. If the debt remains unpaid within five days of the notification, the subscriber’s ability to pay for electricity – whether through online platforms or physical payment offices – is temporarily blocked.
The ministry emphasized that this measure does not constitute disconnection from electricity. Once the outstanding debt is fully paid, the temporary restriction is automatically lifted.
