Ecology Committee ramps up action against environmental violations in Tashkent
Authorities have intensified large-scale inspections across Tashkent city and Tashkent region in response to a sharp rise in air pollution over recent days, according to the Ecology Committee and law enforcement agencies.
Officials say strict measures are now being enforced to curb pollution levels in the capital.
“In recent days, the sharp deterioration in Tashkent’s air quality has caused serious public concern.
“To address the situation, and in line with instructions from agency heads, environmental specialists and law enforcement bodies have stepped up wide-ranging inspection efforts across Tashkent region and Tashkent city.
“Inspections are being carried out even after midnight at greenhouses, facilities using various types of furnaces, and enterprises emitting harmful substances into the atmosphere,” UzA reported.
During the inspections, authorities are:
- setting up air-quality monitoring;
- identifying the main factors contributing to pollution;
- taking enforcement measures against facilities that violate environmental standards.
Greenhouses, furnace-operated facilities, and industrial enterprises suspected of breaching environmental regulations are being reviewed by a working group. Where violations are confirmed, the responsible entities will face administrative and other penalties in accordance with the law.
