Tashkent to expand metro network to 103 km as part of 2030 mobility plan

Uzbekistan has approved an ambitious plan to upgrade Tashkent’s transport system, aiming to reduce congestion and increase the share of public transport use in the capital. The presidential decree, signed on 4 December, outlines key development targets for the city’s mobility network through 2030.

Under the plan, the length of the Tashkent metro network will be extended to 103 kilometers, while the city will build 150,000 new parking spaces to ease pressure on roads and residential districts. The strategy also aims to raise the share of residents using public transport to 60 percent and increase the average speed of buses from 18 km/h to 24 km/h.

The decree also establishes a new Road Traffic Management Center in Tashkent. Its main responsibilities will include:

  • managing traffic flows using modern digital and green technologies;
  • developing the city’s comprehensive transport master plan;
  • constructing multi-level parking facilities at key junctions, including major entry roads from the regions and terminal stations of bus and metro lines;
  • creating safe parking areas beneath elevated metro lines and overpasses.

Authorities emphasize that the measures will help expand the role of public transport, improve road capacity and make travel more convenient for both residents and visitors to the capital.
