Four killed, several injured in blast at “Shams LTD” facility in Bukhara
Four workers were killed and several others injured after an explosion occurred at an explosives production facility in Kogon district of Bukhara region on 6 December, according to official reports.
The incident took place at around 09:40 at a production workshop belonging to “Shams LTD” LLC, located in the Mustaqillik neighborhood. The blast triggered a fire that was fully extinguished by 10:27 after seven rescue units from the regional Department of Emergency Situations were deployed to the scene.
Authorities said around 30 employees were inside the warehouse at the time of the explosion. Four workers died at the site, while four others sustained minor injuries. Two of the injured were discharged after receiving outpatient medical assistance, and the remaining victims were admitted to hospital for further care.
“Shams LTD,” established in 2019, specializes in manufacturing and supplying explosives used for developing new mining sites in Uzbekistan and across Central Asia.
Following instructions from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Cabinet of Ministers issued a directive to establish a government commission to investigate the accident. The commission, led by Industrial Safety Committee Chairman A. Rafiqov, includes representatives from relevant ministries and agencies.
The commission has been tasked with providing necessary assistance to the victims, eliminating the consequences of the explosion, determining the cause of the incident, and preparing measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
Authorities have cordoned off the affected area, and cleanup and recovery efforts are ongoing.
