According to metro authorities, cash desks will be removed from all 14 stations of the overground circular line, as well as from Pakhtakor and Alisher Navoi stations, where the share of cash payments remains low.
In their place, the metro will install new digital infokiosks that issue tickets equipped with QR codes. The move aims to increase transparency, reduce the circulation of cash, and encourage passengers to use electronic payments.
Officials say the introduction of infokiosks will offer several advantages:
- a sharp reduction in cash transactions, improving payment security and accountability;
- faster ticket purchases and shorter queues, saving passengers time;
- the option to use QR-based tickets either as a mobile e-ticket or as a printed receipt.
Earlier, metro management announced plans to fully phase out the role of ticket office operators. Staff affected by the reform will be offered free retraining courses in various fields, ranging from accounting to tailoring and confectionery.
