The decision follows a presidential decree titled On measures to prepare for and host the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, aimed at ensuring the tournament is organized to international standards and at strengthening Uzbekistan’s role in hosting major competitions under FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Under the decree, the FIFA Regional Office for Central Asian countries will be opened on a rent-free basis in the building of the Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA) in Tashkent.
The costs associated with establishing and operating the regional office will primarily be covered by FIFA funds. Any remaining expenses will be financed by the Uzbekistan Football Support Fund, though its contribution must not exceed 50% of total operating costs.
Renovation of the office premises, as well as the provision of furniture, equipment, technical facilities, and vehicles, will be funded through allocations from the Reconstruction and Development Fund, in accordance with the decree. Minimum operational requirements for the office will be determined by the Uzbekistan Football Association.
The opening of a FIFA regional office is expected to enhance coordination with Central Asian football associations and support Uzbekistan’s preparations for hosting the 2027 U-20 World Cup and other high-profile international tournaments.
