According to the embassy, the number of appeals from citizens concerning temporary detention by Egyptian police has increased in recent weeks. The mission said it is holding consultations with Egyptian law enforcement agencies to address these cases.
Egyptian authorities have officially reported tighter oversight in Cairo and other major cities to ensure foreign nationals comply with migration laws and public order regulations. As a result, administrative measures, including deportation, are being applied to foreigners who are staying in the country illegally, lack valid documentation, or violate public order.
To prevent negative consequences, the embassy strongly recommends that Uzbek citizens currently in Egypt:
– strictly comply with local laws and regulations;
– carry a valid identity document (passport) at all times;
– possess a valid visa or a temporary or permanent residence permit (iqama);
– refrain from engaging in employment without the required permits;
– renew visas or residence permits (iqama) in a timely manner.
In the event of detention, citizens are advised to:
– not hand over their passport or other personal documents to unauthorized individuals;
– contact the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Cairo as soon as possible at +20233361723 or +20233364516.
“During your stay in Egypt, it is essential to carefully safeguard documents confirming your identity and legal status in the country and to carry them with you at all times,” the embassy said.
