The U.S. Department of State has suspended the issuance of all visas to applicants under the DV immigrant visa program with immediate effect, the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan said.
“Diversity visa applicants may submit visa applications and attend interviews, and the Department will continue to schedule applicants for appointments, but no DVs will be issued. Existing diversity visa appointments generally will not be rescheduled or cancelled,” the statement said.
The embassy added that the State Department will inform applicants and provide updates as additional information becomes available.
Earlier, the United States suspended the Green Card lottery following a shooting at Brown University, in which an 18-year-old native of Uzbekistan was among the victims. According to U.S. authorities, the shooter had entered the country under the Diversity Visa program.
