Uzbekistan aims to raise average life expectancy to 78 by 2030
Uzbekistan plans to increase the average life expectancy of its population to 78 years by 2030.
The draft Uzbekistan – 2030 strategy sets gradual targets for average life expectancy:
- 2026 – 75.5 years
- 2027 – 76 years
- 2028 – 76.8 years
- 2029 – 77.5 years
- 2030 – 78 years
By 2030, government spending on healthcare is expected to reach 5 percent of GDP.
The strategy also includes specific health goals:
- Reduce premature deaths from cardiovascular diseases (ages 30–69) by 27 percent
- Reduce premature deaths from cancer (ages 30–69) by 5.2 percent
- Ensure full treatment coverage for patients with diabetes
- Keep premature deaths from respiratory diseases (ages 30–69) below 1.5 percent
- Limit tuberculosis incidence to no more than 33 percent
According to the National Statistics Committee, average life expectancy in Uzbekistan has evolved as follows:
- 1991 – 66.4 years
- 1995 – 69.1 years
- 2000 – 70.8 years
- 2005 – 71.8 years
- 2010 – 73 years
- 2015 – 73.6 years
- 2020 – 73.4 years
- 2023 – 74.7 years
- 2024 – 75.1 years
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted during the Independence Day celebrations in August 2025 that healthcare funding had increased sixfold in recent years. He highlighted that improvements in living conditions contributed to the rise in average life expectancy from 73.8 to 75.1 years.
