Energy Ministry warns of possible power and gas restrictions due to cold snap

Uzbekistan is expected to see an increase in energy consumption as temperatures drop, the Ministry of Energy has warned, cautioning that temporary “technical restrictions” may be introduced in some areas. During this period, priority will be given to supplying households and social facilities. Consumers have been urged to use energy resources responsibly.

Due to the sharp decline in air temperatures, Uzbekistan’s energy system is being switched to an enhanced operating mode.

The Ministry of Energy reported that additional technical inspections have been carried out at electricity, heating, and gas supply facilities, and that energy generation and supply capacities have been adjusted to current weather conditions. Relevant services are operating around the clock under a reinforced regime.

“Demand for energy increases during cold weather. Temporary technical restrictions may be introduced in some areas. In such situations, our priority task will be to ensure stable supply to households and social facilities,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry has called on consumers to use electricity and natural gas rationally and to operate heating equipment in an energy-efficient manner.

“By retaining heat in homes, energy can be saved and indoor spaces will remain warm,” the ministry noted.

Residents have also been asked to observe the following measures:

  • not to leave heating equipment unattended;
  • to ensure proper ventilation in rooms while heating appliances are in use;
  • to regularly check the condition and functionality of chimneys and ventilation systems.

“To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, it is recommended not to use open flames or faulty heating devices in enclosed spaces and, where possible, to use carbon monoxide detectors,” the statement said.

For questions related to electricity and gas supply, citizens can call the following numbers 24/7: 1154 (electricity supply), 1104 and 104 (gas supply).

Earlier, Uzhydromet reported that on the night of January 17, temperatures were expected to drop across much of Uzbekistan, with precipitation in the form of rain and snow.
