Lactalis recalls Picot infant formula from Uzbekistan and 18 other countries
French dairy group Lactalis has announced a recall of Picot infant milk formula from 18 countries, including Uzbekistan, after traces of the toxin cereulide were detected in several batches of the product.
According to the company, six batches of Picot formula are being withdrawn from sale as a precautionary measure.
The recall affects products distributed in Australia, Chile, China, Colombia, Congo, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, France, Georgia, Greece, Kuwait, Madagascar, Mexico, Monaco, Spain, Peru, Taiwan, and Uzbekistan, France 24 reported.
Cereulide is a toxin that can cause severe food poisoning, particularly in infants. Despite the potential risks, French authorities said that no reports of adverse health effects linked to the recalled formula have been recorded so far.
The recall comes amid a broader wave of product withdrawals in the infant nutrition market in recent weeks. Earlier, Singaporean authorities recalled Dumex infant formula produced by Danone. Nestlé France has also announced a voluntary recall of certain batches of its Guigoz and Nidal infant formulas over possible contamination with cereulide.
The latest developments have heightened scrutiny of food safety standards in the global infant formula market, as manufacturers and regulators move to prevent potential health risks to children.
