Leadership reshuffle: Ikromov takes over Emergency Situations Ministry, Kudrathodjaev moves to Interior Ministry
Azizbek Ikromov has been appointed Uzbekistan’s new Minister of Emergency Situations, succeeding Botir Kudrathodjaev, who has been reassigned as First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. The appointments were confirmed by a presidential decree, the president’s press secretary, Sherzod Asadov, announced. The nomination of Ikromov was previously approved by deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
Ikromov, born on June 10, 1978, in Tashkent, brings extensive experience in fire safety, law enforcement, and public administration. He studied at the Higher Technical School of Fire Safety under the Ministry of Internal Affairs from 1996 to 2000. Between 2000 and 2017, he held a range of positions within the Ministry’s Main Fire Safety Directorate, rising from chief specialist to deputy head of the directorate.
In 2017, Ikromov was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense for Educational and Ideological Work, serving until 2019. He then returned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs as Deputy Minister, overseeing the Department of Spiritual and Educational Work and Personnel Management, and later supervising public order protection. In July 2023, he was appointed head of the Fergana Regional Department of Internal Affairs.
Botir Kudrathodjaev, the outgoing Minister of Emergency Situations, has been appointed First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and head of the Operational-Search Department.
His reassignment led to his release from the post of Minister of Emergency Situations.
