President Shavkat Mirziyoyev awarded Khayrullo Ibodullayev the “Jasorat” medal for demonstrating courage and selflessness in an emergency situation.

According to the presidential decree, Ibodullayev acted decisively during a dangerous incident in Saint Petersburg, risking his own life and health to save a child who was falling from the upper floors of a multi-storey building. The decree states that he displayed “high courage, heroism and dedication inherent to our people.”

The incident became publicly known on February 22.

Reports indicate that a child had been sitting on the windowsill of an open window on the seventh floor while playing on a tablet. The child slipped and was left hanging from the cornice. Ibodullayev, 36, who was cleaning the yard below at the time, noticed the situation and rushed to help.

After hanging for a short time, the child fell. Ibodullayev managed to catch the child, preventing what could have been a fatal outcome. The child was hospitalized following the incident. Ibodullayev sustained fractures to his arms and ribs.

Under Uzbek legislation, recipients of the “Jasorat” medal are awarded a cash prize equivalent to 10 times the base calculation amount.

In addition to the state medal, Ibodullayev received a 1 million ruble award, approximately $13,000, named after Tigran Keosayan. The prize was presented by Margarita Simonyan, editor in chief of RT and the wife of Tigran Keosayan, according to reports by the RT international media group’s “Rossiya Segodnya” Telegram channel.

The funds have reportedly been transferred to Ibodullayev’s bank account. He plans to send the money to his family in Uzbekistan, saying it will be used to build a house and pay for his father’s medical treatment.

Ibodullayev became the fourth recipient of the Tigran Keosayan award. Previous honorees included two teachers from Buguruslan recognized for bravery and a security guard from Anapa who was killed during a college attack.
